B.A.B.Y. = Bay Area Bhutanese Youth community. They are the recipients of a Wellness in Action mini- grant, which they used to implement their Bridging the Gap Project, aimed at assessing the relationship between the inter-generational trauma on one hand, and conflict and mental health on the other hand.

Bridging the Gap was initiated by Anju Subba and Priya Subba, two Nepali speaking Bhutanese refugee youth.

Anju is passionate about community organizing, refugee rights, and women and youth empowerment. She was born in a Bhutanese refugee camp in Nepal, where she lived until she was 17, later resettling in the Bay Area in 2010. She is also a licensed cosmetologist and one of her dream is to open a business where she can employ women from her community who need emotional and financial support.

Since the resettlement of Bhutanese refugees in America, youths are suffering from career confusion, lack of communication with adults, isolation, and depression, all negatively impacting their wellbeing. Bridging the Gap helped identifying effective interventions to create a culture of inter-generational dialogue and healing.

Anju Subba, who is also mentoring Priya Subba, a youth from the community and active member of B.A.B.Y.
